City of Oakland

In 2000, the population of Oakland, Tennessee was 1279. In July of 2006  it had exploded to 3306.  Low taxes and an attractive cost of living attributed to this
fantastic growth. The median resident age is 31.1 years, and the median income in 2005 was $50,500.  In June 2007, even though it's smaller than the surrounding cities, Oakland has the highest number of building permits issued for any suburb in the Memphis metropolitan area.  This included Southaven and Olive Branch, Mississippi, and Collierville, Tennessee.  Last but not least, the commercial growth In Oakland is outstanding with the latest additions of a Starbucks  and a Wal-Mart Supercenter earlier this year!
